The movie 'The Shawshank Redemption' is a good example of the phrase "impeccable artistry".Over a decade later since its release and it's still one of my best films ever.It definitely(and well-deservedly so) earned its spot on my top-ten-best-films list. And Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbin's excellent thespian abilities in the movie are like a cherry on top of a finely baked chocolate cake.
The movie-which is based on true events-is about a smart banker (Allen Green) who's wrongfully accused of mudering his cheating wife.Despite that the fact that he's innocent,he's sentenced to life in prison due to lack of evidence. In prison,he meets a black inmate whom he befriends.
While serving the twentieth year of his life sentence in prison,he's introduced to a young inmate on a two-year sentence for a misdemeanor. As time goes on,it is discovered that the young prisoner has information about the true murderer of Allen's wife. This shocking piece of information is disclosed to Allen who immediately takes it up with the corrupt and ruthless prison warden. The warden-unsuprisingly and knowing very well that this would set Allen free-refuses to inform the relevant authorities about this.
The warden is a fraudulent individual who-ironically enough-would take part in illegal acts such as money laundering. He would seek Allen's financial expertise to cover his illegal-money trails.Allen intellegently sets himself up a 'ghost' account with a commercial bank.He does this by firstly applying for a driver's license and social security number-obviously using a non-existant person's details. After successfully doing so,he then uses those very 'ghost' particulars to open up a bank account. He uses this account to deposite all the warden's laundered money.
Allen puts to good use all the twenty years that he's imprisoned. He spends all twenty years digging a huge hole in his cell, which he uses to succesfully escape with 365 000 US Dollars to his 'ghost' name.
